2. Minimum Welfare Standards Required

  • All working dogs must receive appropriate daily exercise, rest, and enrichment.
  • Handlers must provide clean drinking water at regular intervals and ensure hydration throughout deployment.
  • Dogs must receive scheduled breaks to avoid exhaustion, overheating, or undue stress.
  • K9 units must never be kept in vehicles or unsuitable environments without adequate ventilation, temperature control, and monitoring.
  • Food and care routines must follow guidance appropriate to each dog's breed, age, and working conditions.
  • Any signs of illness, injury, or behavioural distress must be addressed immediately with professional veterinary care.

3. Approved Handler Conduct

Only competent, fully trained, and licensed handlers may operate or supervise canine security dogs on behalf of UK Bailiff Services Ltd. Handlers must:

  • Maintain full control and discipline of their K9 units at all times.
  • Use only humane, non-abusive handling techniques.
  • Avoid any action that could cause fear, pain, or distress to the dog.
  • Follow all industry-recognised K9 operational guidelines.

4. Working Conditions & Operational Requirements

  • Dogs must only be deployed in suitable weather and environmental conditions.
  • No dog may be deployed for excessive hours or without adequate rest periods.
  • K9 units must have access to shaded or sheltered areas when required.
  • All equipment (harnesses, leads, transport crates) must be maintained, fit for purpose, and comfortable for the dog.

5. Compliance & Monitoring

UK Bailiff Services Ltd reserves the right to audit subcontractors, request welfare records, or remove subcontractors from engagement where any aspect of this policy is breached. Zero tolerance applies to neglect, abuse, or unsafe practices.

6. Reporting Concerns

Any concerns regarding the welfare or treatment of K9 units must be reported to the UK Bailiff Services Ltd management team immediately. Welfare concerns can be raised confidentially and will be investigated without delay.
