If you're dealing with an abandoned vehicle on your property, let UK Bailiffs Service manage the process with efficiency and legal compliance. Contact us to initiate the removal of the unwanted vehicle from your premises.

At UK Bailiffs Service, we provide a comprehensive solution for dealing with abandoned vehicles on your property. Here's how we handle the situation:

Torts Notice Drafted: Our process begins by drafting a legally sound notice under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act, informing the vehicle owner of their obligation to remove the vehicle.

On-Site Visit by Enforcement Agent (EA):

Photography and Documentation: An EA will visit the site, photograph the vehicle for records, and attach the drafted notice to the vehicle.

Chassis Number Recording: If visible, the chassis number will be noted for identification purposes.

Local Enquiries: We conduct local investigations to determine the ownership of the vehicle, helping to expedite the process of notifying the owner.

Online Checks: We complete HPI finance and lost or stolen Police reports. We will check with DVLA to see if the vehicle is MOT'd, taxed and insured.

Vehicle Removal Options:

Collection Period: If the vehicle is not collected within a reasonable time, typically 14 days, we offer:

Removal and Storage: The vehicle can be removed and stored for an additional 14 days (this is a chargeable service).

On-Site Extension: Alternatively, the vehicle can remain on the property for another 14 days if preferred.

DVLA Application: Post the waiting period, we will apply to the DVLA for a new V5 registration document: This process can take up to 4 weeks, but often we see results within 10 days.

This step provides the current owner with an opportunity to object before any change in ownership is finalized.

Police Notification: We inform the local police of the abandoned vehicle situation to ensure all legal protocols are followed.

Final Disposal: Once the V5 is returned, we are authorized to dispose of the vehicle legally, ensuring proper procedures are adhered to for recycling or auctioning the vehicle as per regulations.

Abandoned / Illegal Vehicles FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • I have a vehicle parked on my property without permission.

If you know that the vehicle owner is regularly using the vehicle, we can treat it as trespass - we need to establish that they are aware that we are going to be moving the vehicle.

If you believe the car has been abandoned then we will need to serve paperwork called a Torts notice on the vehicle and wait for between 2-4 weeks before we can remove it.

  • Why can't the Police or Council Intervene?

If the vehicle is on Private land and not stolen or subject to legal proceedings, then the Police and local authority will treat it as a civil matter

  • How much do you charge.

The cost for service of the notice is £295.00

The cost for reattendance and recovery is the same.

However, we look at recovering these charges via the vehicle owner or the sale of the vehicle.

  • What is a Torts notice?

A Torts notice is a legal document giving the owner of a vehicle 'reasonable time' to collect the vehicle.

During that time, it is unlawful for the bailiee (ie the person whos property the vehicle is on) to intefere or dispose of the vehicle.

  • What happens to the vehicle if it is not collected?

We will inform the Police and attempt to contact the owner.

We will then apply to the DVSA (DVLA) for a V5 certificate.

We will then dispose of the vehicle by selling it or crushing it.

If the sale realises enough money to cover your fees then we will refund that payment.
