Comprehensive Vehicle Removal Process
At UK Bailiffs Service, we provide a comprehensive solution for dealing with abandoned vehicles on your property. Here's how we handle the situation:
Step 1: Torts Notice Drafted
We begin by drafting a legally sound notice under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act, informing the vehicle owner of their obligation to remove the vehicle.
Step 2: On-Site Visit by Enforcement Agent (EA)
- Photography and Documentation: Our EA photographs the vehicle and attaches the notice.
- Chassis Number Recording: We record the chassis number if visible for identification.
Step 3: Local Enquiries
We carry out local investigations to help determine the vehicle’s owner quickly and accurately.
Step 4: Online Checks
We complete HPI finance checks, police stolen/lost reports, and check with the DVLA for MOT, tax, and insurance status.
Step 5: Vehicle Removal Options
If the vehicle is not collected within a reasonable time (typically 14 days), we offer the following:
- Removal and Storage: Vehicle is removed and stored for an additional 14 days (chargeable).
- On-Site Extension: Optionally, the vehicle can remain on the property for another 14 days.
Step 6: DVLA Application
We apply to the DVLA for a new V5 registration. This can take up to 4 weeks, though results often come within 10 days. The current owner is given time to object.
Step 7: Police Notification
We notify the local police about the abandoned vehicle, ensuring full compliance with legal procedures.
Step 8: Final Disposal
Upon return of the V5, we proceed to legally dispose of the vehicle via recycling or auction in accordance with regulations.
